At 9:03 a.m., police responded to Arlington Street at William Street, upon a report a man assaulting a woman and then stealing her car, while her 3-year-old child was inside, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The child was later reunited with his mother by a family member who drove the child back to the scene, Fragé said.
The mother and child were taken to University Hospital in Newark where they are in stable condition, Fragé said. .The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.
